H&M's star-studded February - Beckham and Georgia May Jagger

With February comes H&M's new sexy just-in-time-for-Valentine's-day celebrity collaborations. First off we have the launch of David Beckham's new ad campaign for his underwear line. Woohooo more half-naked photos of Becks! And guess what, now there's a video! What more can a girl ask for! It's nasty, cold and miserable in February - at least now we have sexy David photos to warm us up. (oh baby oh baby... I went there. HA!) If you have no idea about the Beck-man's lovely undie line check out my latest Dress to KILL article. It's just a little blurb, but there are photos to enjoy.

Also coming up this month is H&M's new Rock'n'Roll inspired campaign. Mick Jagger's beautiful model daughter Georgia May Jagger will be the face of the fashion-meets-rock line of edgy 60's-meets-90's biker-esque clothing. (Confusing, I know.. I've been writing way too much recently and have basically forgotten how to describe things. Welcome to my lazy world of "-meets-". Deal with it.) The campaign was shot by celebrity fashion photographer Terry Richardson, so expect good things. For more info and photos check out my DTK article here.

Supermodels of 2012 - The Bold and The Bizarre

2012 models are take the term 'unique' to a whole new level.

As we are currently in the midst of Fashion Season, with Fashion Weeks going on all over the world, runway models are getting a whole lot of media attention. Even I've contributed with my recent posts about my new favourite model Andrej Pejic.

I guess it's only normal. They are the faces us fashion-obsessed people stare at when going through the millions of Fashion Week photos. They're in every magazine and all over fashion websites and blog. And it is because this year designers have gotten a little more creative with model casting.

Being tall and perfect isn't enough to get you a spot on the runway anymore. Designers are looking for the strange, the awkward, the bizarre. Yes, you could say they've been doing this for years but, in my opinion, this year runways and the pages of magazines are  particularly over-run by never-before-seen types like Pejic, Montreal's Rico the Zombie Boy, and 83-year-old Daphne Selfe.

I am not the only one to have noticed this. The Guardian just did a story on these new fashion phenomenons. Models Tara Lynn and Charlotte Free are among The Guardian's list of 'new' models.

A Whole New Breed - 2012's new favourite model Andreji Pejic

Andrej Pejic is the newest and biggest thing in the modelling world and is gracing the cover of FASHION magazine's February 2012 issue. Last year Pejic walked in the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2011 couture show, stomped down numerous runways during New York Fashion Week last February and has worked with the likes of Steven Miesel and Juergen Teller - two of the biggest fashion photographers.

Due to what Gaultier dubbed Pejic's "out-worldly beauty", this Serbian-born Austarlian model has made himself known not only to the world of male modelling but to the female one as well. His extreme androgynous features have made it possible for him to be booked for countless female campaigns. His first big break in feminine-dress was in 2010, when Carine Roitfeld, the then editor-in-chief of French Vogue chose him to star as the lead model in an editorial shoot, where he was dressed in garments from Fendi's womens line. With that he was launched into the world of androgynous modelling. At just 19 years-old he had already modelled for Marc Jacobs, John Galliano, Paul Smith, Raf Simmons, and Comme Des Garçons.

In August 2011, New York Magazine profiled Pejic while he was working on the cover shoot for the magazine's Fall Fashion Issue. For further info on this ultra beautiful pretty-boy and soon to be top model read Alex Morris' article. There is also an awesome behind-the-scenes video of the cover shoot.

Vintage is always in style - 90s models make a come back in 2012

In recent fashion news:

Roberto Cavalli’s Spring 2012 fashion ad campaign puts the “original” supermodels of the 1990s’ back in the spotlight, with Naomi Campbell, Kristen McMenamy, Karen Elson in starring roles alongside 17-year-old supermodel Daphne Groeneveld.

According to AFP Relax News, fashion houses’ fascination with teenage models has declined in recent years as designers are looking to hire older, more recognizable supermodels to be the faces of upcoming campaigns. In Cavalli’s case, three of the four models of the campaign are in their 30s and 40s.

The rise of the original supermodel can also be credited to British band Duran Duran’s music video for their single “Girl Panic” which came out in November. The video features some of the 1990s’ biggest names such as Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Yasmin Le Bon, and Naomi Campbell.

Check it out the video. It's actually really well done

Following this trend of vintage model headliners are labels like David Yurman, which is currently working with Kate Moss, 37, Italian label Pinko, which has recently announced Campbell, 41, as the face of their Spring 2012 campaign, and  Joseph Ribkoff, which has chosen Le Bon as the face of the Spring 2012 collection.

On a final note, models are freaks of nature. They do not age, gain weight, or wrinkle....I better look like Naomi Campbell when I'm 41. Hell, I'm 21 and I'm not even close to looking that good in lingerie. Screw you Duran Duran and 90s models!
